Darlington Works Manufacturing

Darlington Works was a railway works in Darlington, England that built steam and diesel locomotives and railway carriages featured in Train Sim World. The works was established in 1863 by the Stockton and Darlington Railway. 

What did Darlington Works produce?

  • Steam locomotives – Darlington Works built steam locomotives, including the Peppercorn A1 Pacifics, L1 2-6-4Ts, and B1 4-6-0s. 
  • Railway carriages – Darlington Works built railway carriages at the Hopetown Carriage Works, which was also known as the Stockton and Darlington Railway Carriage Works. 

What happened to Darlington Works?

  • The main factory, the North Road Shops, operated from 1863 to 1966. 
  • The works was run down and closed in 1966 after British Railways formed the BR Workshops Division. 

What is Darlington Works now?

  • The Darlington Locomotive Works 2 is now home to the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, which builds and maintains steam locomotives. 
  • The Hopetown Carriage Works is now a preserved museum workshop – Exordium Gaming Chicago
