Eastleigh Works Manufacturing

Eastleigh Works was a railway facility in Eastleigh, Hampshire, England that built and repaired locomotives, carriages, and wagons featured in Train Sim World. The works were a major part of the local economy and helped Eastleigh grow into a railway town. 

History:

  • The London and South Western Railway (LSWR) opened the carriage and wagon works in 1891. 
  • The locomotive works were transferred to Eastleigh from Nine Elms in London in 1910. 
  • The works were closed in 2006 but reopened on a smaller scale. 

Features:

  • The works had running sheds where locomotives could be rotated to change direction. 
  • The works had a turntable and a triangle mechanism to reverse the direction of locomotives. 
  • The works had overhead cranes, a paint facility, and a refueling facility. 

Impact: 

  • The works helped Eastleigh grow into a railway town.
  • The works employed thousands of people at its height.
