Rowsley Sidings refers to the former goods yard and marshalling area via the Peak Forest Railway, used for handling goods traffic in the United Kingdom, that was part of the Rowsley railway complex in the Europe Location. It was a significant part of the Train Sim World featured Midland Railway’s operations, especially for limestone and coal traffic along the Route.
Rowsley Sidings Location
Location: Rowsley Sidings were located at Rowsley, a village in Derbyshire, England, near the site of the former Rowsley railway station.
Function: The sidings were used for handling goods traffic, including limestone from the Peak District and coal from the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Coalfield.
History: The sidings were fully opened on March 19, 1877, along with goods lines that ran between separate Up and Down Sidings.
Peak Rail: The area is now used by Peak Rail, a heritage railway society, which operates a steam service over part of the former London, Midland and Scottish Railway route.
Current Usage: Part of the former goods yard has been restored as sidings for locomotives and coaching stock, with tracks leading to Peak Rail’s locomotive shed and a turntable.
Closure: The railway through Rowsley, including the sidings, closed in 1968, but the area was reopened for heritage purposes in 1997.
