Birmingham Cross-City Line - Exordium Gaming

The BR Class 323 is a type of Train Sim World electric multiple unit (EMU) passenger train that was designed to operate on commuter lines in and around Birmingham and Manchester:

  • Features – The Class 323 was designed for swift acceleration and high reliability. They are known for the distinctive whining noise they make when accelerating.
  • History – The Class 323 was built by Hunslet Transportation Projects and Holec from 1992 to 1995. They were among the last trains to enter service with British Rail before its privatization in the mid-1990s.
  • Operation – The Class 323s were the mainstay fleet on the Cross City line (Lichfield – Birmingham New St – Redditch / Bromsgrove). They were also used on other routes in the region, including services to Wolverhampton and Walsall.
  • Replacement – The Class 323s are being replaced by a new fleet of class 730 trains. The new trains have a third more capacity than the Class 323s and feature spacious interiors, accessible toilets, Wi-Fi connectivity, and power points at every seat.
  • Farewell – A charity train ride marked the end of the line for the Class 323s. The event featured a pair of Class 323s operating a day-long round trip between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street – Exordium Gaming Chicago
