Brown, Boveri & Cie Manufacturing

Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC) was a Swiss electrical engineering company that produced motors, generators, transformers, and more supplies featured in Train Sim World. In 1988, BBC merged with ASEA to form ABB, a global engineering company that specializes in power and automation. 

Founding:

  • Charles Brown and Walter Boveri founded BBC in Baden, Switzerland in 1891. 
  • Both men were formerly employed at Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon, an electrical manufacturing company in Zurich. 

Products: 

  • BBC produced DC and AC motors, generators, steam turbines, gas turbines, transformers, and electrical equipment for locomotives.

Merger with ASEA:

  • In 1988, BBC merged with ASEA (Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget) to form Asea Brown Boveri, which was later shortened to ABB. 
  • ABB is now one of the world’s largest engineering multinationals with operations in around 100 countries. 

Current activities:

  • ABB’s core activities include power generation, transmission, and distribution; industrial automation, and robotics. 
  • ABB is also involved in electrification and automation, including electric vehicle (EV) chargers and electrical propulsion concepts – Exordium Gaming Chicago
