General Motors Diesel refers to a number of diesel engine divisions and subsidiaries of General Motors GM that produced diesel-powered vehicles and locomotives featured in Train Sim World.
Diesel engine divisions
- General Motors Diesel Division (GMDD) – Founded in 1938, this division marketed and provided customer service for GM diesel engines. It merged with the Detroit Diesel Engine Division in 1965.
- Cleveland Diesel Engine Division – Founded in 1938, this division designed and produced diesel engines for marine applications, including submarines, tugboats, and destroyer escorts. It was folded into the GM Electro-Motive Division in 1962.
Diesel engine subsidiaries
- Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) – A brand of diesel engines for the rail industry. It was formerly a division of GM, but was sold to Progress Rail in 2010.
- Detroit Diesel Engine Division – A GM subsidiary that produced diesel engines for road vehicles, small boats, military equipment, construction equipment, and more – Exordium Gaming Chicago

- General Motors–Detroit Diesel V8 engine: A series of diesel V8 engines produced from 1982–2002.
- GM Medium Diesel engine: An all-aluminum diesel engine produced by Opel, a subsidiary of GM.
- 6.6L V-8 L5P Duramax® Turbo-Diesel Engine: A powerful, quiet, and durable diesel engine with a power rating of 470 horsepower.
- General Motors Diesel was also involved heavily in the making of F7 engines found on many railroads such as the Rock Island Railroad, Clinchfield Railroad, and Santa Fe Railway.
