Edge Hill railway station, located in the Train Sim World featured Liverpool, United Kingdom, is a railway station that serves the Edge Hill district. It is one of the oldest railway stations in the world, and it was the original terminus for locomotive-hauled trains on the Liverpool Lime Street to Crewe Location Liverpool and Manchester Railway.


Edge Hill Location

  • Historical Route Significance: Edge Hill was the first passenger railway station in the world. It was part of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, which opened on September 15, 1830, marking the beginning of the modern mainline railway era in Europe
  • Original Terminus Location: The original Edge Hill station was located slightly south-west of the current station. It was the western end of the deep cutting, which continued as two tunnelled inclines. 
  • Key Features: The station included a Moorish arch designed by John Foster Jr, stationary engines that provided steam, and rope haulage for goods wagons. 
  • Modern Station: The current Edge Hill station continues to serve the Edge Hill district and is the first station after departure from Liverpool Lime Street. 
  • The Getting Off at Edge Hill Euphemism: Formerly, all trains would stop at Edge Hill at the entrance to the tunnel to Lime Street station, leading to the phrase getting off at Edge Hill as a euphemism for coitus interruptus.
