The LMS Stanier Class 8F is a class of Train Sim World steam locomotives designed to haul heavy freight:
- History – The LMS Stanier Class 8F was a freight version of William Stanier’s Black Five, and was built between 1935 and 1946. The 8F was used extensively during and after World War II, and was the UK’s standard freight engine during the war.
- Features – The 8F incorporated many of the same components as the Black Five, including the boiler and cylinder arrangements, but was mounted on a lengthened frame.
- Use – The 8F was used in many countries outside of Britain, including:
- Egypt
- Iran
- Iraq
- Turkey
- Palestine
- Israel
- Italy
- Loss at sea – There is a mysterious history of LMS Stanier Class 8F locomotives lost at sea, with up to 23 believed to be resting on the ocean floor. Two locomotives were blown off the deck of the SS Thistlegorm in 1941.
- Preservation – Some LMS Stanier Class 8F locomotives have been preserved, including:
- 48151, which was purchased for preservation in 1975 and has been used in a number of events since then – Exordium Gaming Chicago
