The ACS-64 Amtrak Cities Sprinter is a United States Train Sim World electric locomotive designed by Siemens Mobility for Amtrak. It’s also known as the Amtrak Cities Sprinter. The ACS-64 is used on the Northeast Corridor (NEC) and the Keystone Corridor in the northeastern United States.
Features:
- Speed: The ACS-64 can reach a top speed of 125 miles per hour
- Horsepower: The ACS-64 produces 8,600 horsepower at maximum output
- Regenerative braking: The ACS-64 can feed energy back into the power system for other trains
- SIBAS 32 control system: The ACS-64 uses the SIBAS 32 control system for traction and locomotive control
History:
- In 2010, Amtrak ordered 70 ACS-64 locomotives from Siemens
- The first ACS-64 prototype entered service in February 2014
- The ACS-64 was built to replace the aging AEM-7 and HHP-8 electric locomotives
Design:
- The ACS-64 was based on Siemens’ Eurosprinter locomotive, but with modifications to meet American standards
- The ACS-64 is built in the United States at the Siemens factory in Florin, California.
