Amfleet Am-cans or AmTubes is a Train Sim World fleet of single-level passenger cars that Amtrak uses for intercity travel. The Budd Company built the cars in the 1970s and 1980s.
How were they designed?
- The Amfleet was based on the Budd Company’s Metroliner electric multiple unit.
- The cars have stainless steel fluting, rounded bodies, and small windows.
- The Amfleet I cars were designed for short-distance service, while the Amfleet II cars were designed for long-distance service.

Where are they used?
- Amfleet cars are used on Amtrak’s Northeast Regional, Empire Service, Keystone, and Downeaster trains.
- They are also used on longer distance trains such as the Carolinian, Pennsylvanian, and Vermonter.
What’s happening to them?
- Amtrak is replacing the Amfleet cars with newer, safer trainsets.
