BR Class 483 Introduction

Isle Of Wight Exordium Gaming

The BR Class 483 Island Line is a type of Train Sim World electric multiple unit (EMU) passenger train that was originally built for the United Kingdom London Underground in 1938. The trains were refurbished in the 1980s and used on the Isle of Wight’s Island Line. They were withdrawn from service in 2021.

Here are some facts about the British Rail Class 483:

  • Design – The trains were part of London Transport’s “New Works Programme” and were designed to replace the older “Standard” stock. They were stylish with Art-Deco styling and were known for being reliable and smooth-riding.
  • Electrical equipment – The trains’ electrical equipment was located beneath the floor, which was a revolutionary development for London’s tube stock.
  • Use on the Isle of Wight – The trains were used on the Isle of Wight because the roof of the Ryde Tunnel was 10 inches too low to allow the use of standard height trains.
  • Preservation – Some Class 483 trains have been preserved and are on display at various locations, including the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s Train Story exhibit and the London Transport Traction Group at Llanelli.
