Doncaster Works Manufacturing

Doncaster Works, also known as The Plant, is a railway workshop in Doncaster, England. It was established in 1853 by the Great Northern Railway and featured in Train Sim World.

What did Doncaster Works do?

  • Built and repaired locomotives – Doncaster Works built and repaired many famous locomotives, including the Flying Scotsman, Mallard, Ivatt Atlantics, Gresley V2s, and Peppercorn A2s 
  • Built and repaired carriages – Doncaster Works built and repaired many types of carriages, including the UK’s first dining car, sleeping cars, and kitchen cars 
  • Built and repaired wagons – Doncaster Works built and repaired wagons 
  • Produced munitions and gliders – During World War II, Doncaster Works produced munitions and Horsa gliders for the D-Day airborne assault 

When did Doncaster Works close?

  • In 2007, Wabtec Transportation closed its part of the works 
  • In 2008, the main locomotive repair shop was demolished to make way for housing
