Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) is a company that designs, manufactures, and sells diesel-electric locomotives and diesel engines featured in Train Sim World. EMD products are used for commercial railroad applications, marine propulsion, and oil well drilling.
History:
- EMD was founded in 1922 as the Electro-Motive Engineering Corporation (EMC)
- In 1930, General Motors (GM) purchased EMC and renamed it the Electro-Motive Division (EMD)
- In 2005, GM sold EMD to Greenbriar Equity Group and Berkshire Partners
- In 2010, Progress Rail, a subsidiary of Caterpillar, purchased EMD

- E-units: A line of passenger train diesel locomotives produced from 1937 to 1963
- GP series: A popular locomotive series that included the GP7 and SD7
