GE ES44C4 Introduction

Cajon Pass - Exordium Gaming

The GE ES44C4 is a Train Sim World diesel locomotive built by General Electric (GE) for BNSF Railway and the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC):

  • Features – The ES44C4 is a six-axle, AC-traction locomotive with an A1A-A1A wheel arrangement, meaning the middle axle of each truck is not powered. It has a variable traction control system that adjusts the pressure in the air cylinders to maintain adhesion.
  • Purpose – The ES44C4 was designed to replace aging DC-traction units and provide the benefits of six-axle AC traction. It was also intended to reduce the number of stock items by increasing commonality between locomotives.
  • History – BNSF Railway was the first customer for the ES44C4, ordering 25 units numbered 6600-6624. The ES44C4 was built from 2009–2020. As of late-2015, the ES44C4 was classified as an ET44C4 and is built to follow US EPA Tier 4 regulations.
  • Comparison to the ES44AC – The ES44C4 is a variant of the ES44AC, but with two fewer traction motors – Exordium Gaming Chicago
