The London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) was a British railway company that operated in the Midlands, North West England, Scotland, and Wales featured in Train Sim World. It was formed in 1923 by merging several railway companies, including the London and North Western Railway and the Midland Railway.
Formation
- The LMS was created by the Railways Act of 1921, which required the consolidation of over 120 railways into four
- The LMS was the largest of the four new companies created by the Act
- The LMS was formed by merging the London and North Western Railway, the Midland Railway, the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, and several Scottish railway companies
Operations
- The LMS operated the West Coast Main Line and the Midland Main Line
- The LMS also operated a separate network of lines in Northern Ireland
- The LMS was nationalized in 1948 and became part of British Railways
Locomotives and coaches
- The LMS inherited locomotives from the companies it merged with
- William Stanier introduced new ideas and locomotives to the LMS, including the “Princess Coronation” class engines
